A fellowship position is offered each year through the Division of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery within the Department of Otolaryngology at State University of New York Upstate Medical University. The fellow is immersed in a rich surgical and clinical experience in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery with particular emphasis on congenital craniofacial disorders, craniomaxillofacial surgery, post-ablative reconstruction of the head and neck, Mohs reconstruction, rhinoplasty and cosmetic facial surgery. Experience in the surgical management of cleft lip and palate, craniosynostosis, traumatic facial bone and soft tissue injuries is ample and also unique to this fellowship.

The goal of the fellowship directors is to prepare the fellow for a career in academic facial plastic and reconstructive surgery.

Exposure to free tissue transfer reconstruction is provided by Dr. Jesse Ryan an Otolaryngologist specializing in head and neck surgery.

The fellowship is one of approximately 60 offered in the United States under the auspices of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS). Past fellows have earned an annual salary of approximately $65,000. Health benefits are included, and malpractice is covered by the institution.
