Medical students with an interest in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (ENT) have several opportunities to learn more about this dynamic and rewarding specialty. These include:
Shadowing: Spend time observing one of our experienced ENT providers in clinical practice.
Research: Get involved in ongoing research projects within the department.
Mentorship: Connect with our residents and faculty to learn more about careers in ENT and receive guidance.

Clinical Electives at Upstate Medical University:
Third-year clerkship (SURG8200)
As part of the 10-week EM/General Surgery and Surgical Subspecialties clerkship, 3rd year medical students can elect to spend 2 weeks on the ENT service. This provides valuable early exposure to the breadth of our specialty.
Fourth-year Acting Internship (OTOL4801)
We offer a 4-week Acting Internship for 4th year medical students (students from Upstate Medical College and visiting students from other institutions. This rotation provides an in-depth experience for those seriously considering residency in Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery. Students will work closely with faculty and residents in both the operating room and outpatient clinics and gain exposure to the wide range of sub-specialties within ENT
